I wrote about the Gucci Sukey Large Tote a few months ago, and when I saw it available for pre-order in a new trim color on Saks.com today, I thought it might be worth revisiting. Because, to be honest, the climate for logo bags has changed, as has the climate for anything obviously expensive, since the first incarnation of this bag came out. Since then, the US (and much of the world) economy has imploded, millions are out of jobs, and many have seen their retirements shrink to nearly nothing. So…why in the world do I still like this bag? I could sit and people watch for hours everyday. We were walking down Las Olas (a chic little strip filled with boutiques) in Fort Lauderdale when I noticed a group of 3 women who were incredibly chic. They were chic and at least 80 years old. As they sat on the corner of the street chatting away I caught them reveling in their new purchases for one another, from Louis Vuitton Monogram Tisse Rayure line. While two of the ladies were carrying the Louis Vuitton Monogram Tissé Sac Rayure PM, one of the ladies was carrying my favorite, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Tisse Rayure Clutch. The bags in this line are designed with linen and cotton monogram canvas with a grained leather trim. This line has been designed by Mar Jacobs and pays homage to historical Louis Vuitton trunks. As I watched these ladies, who were dressed fabulously, I fell in love with the bag. It is different, elegant, and timeless. Just as I thought they could not be any more fabulous, their driver pulled up in their Bentley to wisk them away. Sure a Bentley doesn’t always mean you are chic, but these ladies sure were. Again, for a bag that was originally over $2k, the nylon lining is not as luxurious as I would want but will be easier to clean. As most of you know, Megs, Vlad and I have been traveling for the past couple weeks. Finally, we are all settled in South Florida and trying to get back to our normal schedules. While I was traveling, I couldn’t help but notice the plethora of laptop bags in the airport. I swear, the only travelers who didn’t have a laptop bag were those under the age of 15 (and honestly, even some of them did). So, it got me thinking about how bland most laptop bags are. I mean, really, almost all luggage you see is black and that truly is the same when it comes to laptop bags. I know that more than anything else, we look for functionality, but every now and again a little bit of color can’t do any harm. When I cam across the Burberry Laptop Messenger Bag, I thought, now *this* is something I’d like to carry around. I know the Burberry pattern can be a little much at time, but in the instance, I think it works wonderfully. The bag comes with brasstone hardware on the case along with a canvas shoulder strap and the flap has a double snap closure. And as always, I enjoy the interior slip, zip and cell phone pockets. Over the weekend, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, the world’s largest luxury goods conglomerate, announced that it would increase its share in family-owned leather giant Hermes 14.2%, to a total of 17.1% stock ownership. LVMH, which owns such famous labels as Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Fendi, claims that it will not seek control of Hermes or board representation, but news of the sharp increase in the conglomerate’s ownership of the brand has many wondering if that will remain true for long. Luxury isn’t just a lifestyle, it’s also big business, and Hermes has been among the most profitable properties on the high-end mass market through the recent economic downturn. Part of the Hermes allure for many clients stems from the fact that the Hermes family still runs the company, even in this day of corporate fashion and massive conglomeration. LVMH doesn’t just buy up shares of luxury brands for fun, and although owning a chunk of Hermes stock is certainly a strong bet in today’s luxury market, one can’t help but wonder about LVMH’s larger goals. Although the company’s spokespeople claim that LVMH merely has its sights on being a longterm Hermes stockholder, luxury watchers would be advised to take that with a proverbial grain of salt. We have disappointed some with our lack of Man Bag Monday features, and for that I apologize. However, we are back on track now and while Vlad covered a novelty idea earlier today I have a full on leather bag to share. Right when I saw this pop up on Neiman Marcus I knew I would cover it. If you had to ask me what type of man bag I am drawn to, this Prada bag is it. I love the idea of masculine and rugged yet not overly structured bag. This bag has it all for me, does it have it for you? Belts Replica I’m underwhelmed, and I hate being underwhelmed. I’m not a huge fan of Prada‘s Fall 2009 offerings, and I’m even less of a fan of Prada Spring 2010. So much so that it kind of makes my head hurt. Memo to the fashion industry: no one wants clear vinyl bags. No one. You guys tried this crap a few seasons ago and thought it would be cute, and they all ended up on the sale rack at the end of the season, and they didn’t even move particularly quickly once discounted. A clear, architectural hard plastic clutch meant to hold three things for a night out, a la Fendi‘s Spring 2010 presentation? That’s clear done well. But a vinyl gray-tinted clear satchel meant to hold the dreck of everyday life, like tampons and your ATM receipts? No thanks. Do not want. Ever. But that, with some jewels stuck to the top and a canvas tote or two thrown in for good measure, is basically what we got. Since Prada does such a big bag collection for every season, this is probably only the tip of the iceberg and several other non-runway mini lines will eventually surface, but if this is any indication of what’s to come, I’ll take a pass.

The question of the day is “Do you wear matching designer accessories?” For example, same designer shoes, handbags, glasses, jewelery, belt, scarf, etc? I realized that my closet is full of designer accessories, but not many matching accessories. Definitely need to put a stop to this! There is a fine line between over-logo over-matching and just the right combination. For a perfect combination, check out the Gucci Tote and Boots which remind me of riding days (ah yes, equestrian is stylish right now).
