It took us a few days (my guess would be that lighting issues delayed the release of the show photographs), but we rustled up a few pictures of the handbags from Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 for your viewing pleasure. And a pleasure they are – those who prefer seriousness to fun in their accessories need not apply. These bags only make up part of what is always an enormous accessories collection, but it seems as though Jacobs is right on board with the multicolor trend that has emerged quickly in Europe, as well as the continuing trend for smaller, more streamlined and structured bags. This is perhaps the most wearable collection of runway bags Jacobs has presented in a few seasons, and they’ll almost certainly do well at retail. Gucci Replica Prada has been flying below the radar. I have a hard time putting into words the excitement I felt when I received the press release on the latest Louis Vuitton Core Values campaign. A touch of femininity has this bag holding my attention. While the price of Prada Bags has been on a rise, I have expected the quality to rise at a 1 to 1 ratio. That has not always happened which means I am not buying their bags. But the Prada Knot Shoulder Bag is quite cute, can be dressy, and is priced relatively reasonably. This is not just nylon either, it is designed with smooth leather and sports a gathered top and a large knot detail. The knot could almost pass for a rose or some sort of floral design (note I said almost, I did not guarantee it). The other cool aspect is the removable shoulder strap, which means you could easily transition this bag from day to night. The inside is lined in logo fabric and there is a zip pocket. Dimensions are large enough to make the bag usable; 10″ x 6″ x 4.5″. Overall I really do like it. It is alluring but not over the top and feminine but not girly. Cheap Belts Who knew that “summer fur” would ever be a Thing? Is fashion running out of trends and the only thing that’s left to do is wear things that are wildly inappropriate for the weather? Possibly. And, well I’m sort of ok with that. As Paris Vogue editrix Carine Roitfeld recently said on Twitter, fashion isn’t to make you look attractive, it’s to make you look different. And, rest assured, wearing something like the Marc Jacobs Gilda Fur & Sequins Flap Bag will definitely accomplish the goal of making a woman look different than most people in society. Then again, if it’s made by one of the biggest designers on the planet and sold by a huge, multinational retailer, is it really that different? Should we all be moving on to the next “different” thing already? Lofty questions, these, but most importantly – is it a bag worth buying?

Here I am, writing about yet another Burberry bag that I really like. Whatever different creative process they’ve got going on in their handbag line this season, they really need to stick with it. In fact, they probably need to give those people raises, because I can’t remember another season where I’ve looked twice at one of their bags. Their use of intricate texture and simple shapes theis season has been phenomenal, and I can’t wait to see if they continue it in the future. The latest example is the Burberry Prorsum Leather Dégradé Tote. The only real gripe I have with this bag is the usability of the ombre color scheme. It’s somewhere between chartreuse and brown, which is beautiful to look at on its own, but might be hard to incoporate into an average wardrobe unless brown is your go-to neutral. It has the same square “scaling” effect as the Burberry Prorsum Willow Leather Clutch that we spoke of not long ago, and in this case, the dégradé color scheme makes the texture look even richer. If we are up to date with our fall fashion, like we should be, we all know that shearling is ‘in’. I mean waaay in style. But just because you are a high end designer with a well-known name, it doesn’t mean that each of your bags will be a hit even if they implement the looks of the season. The Gucci Large Shearling Tote simply does not do it for me. Granted I have not yet seen this bag in person, but from the looks of it the bag does not look beige- rather the color you would see when you open up a baby’s diaper. The entire tote is monogrammed with the Gucci GG logo on the beige shearling and is trimmed in beige leather. This tote is also a pretty nice size: 10 3/4″H x 13 3/4″W x 5 3/4″D, but I’d still really rather pass. A few steps away from Louis Vuitton was the Hermes Venice, Italy store. While my Hermes collection merely contains a handful of scarves, Twilly’s, and a beautiful bracelet, I am on the hunt for a Birkin. The Hermes store in Venice is quaint, but still packs a big punch. Downstairs are all of the scarves, bracelets, and small goods, while upstairs there was clothing and of course, glorious bags. A lovely SA showed me around and delighted my arm with a Blue Jean Hermes Lindy, which I had a really hard time passing up. The only reason I opted not for the Lindy was for the sheer fact that I am anxiously waiting for a Hermes Blue Jean Birkin with Palladium Hardware. Insert drool here. After a dozen looks, I thought I was in for a very unpleasant show. But after a little while, things started to look decidedly better. I’m not sure if it was just the fashion show version of Stockholm Syndrome, I guess that’s always possible, but things rallied a bit during the middle and end portions of the show. No review of Marc Jacobs‘ Spring 2010 fashion show would be complete without taking a good look at the accessories that were also featured – after all, they’ll be what we’re picking apart mercilessly in a few months. Consistent with the softer color palette of much of MJ’s collection, we saw a lot of champagnes, light and medium blues, creams, and whites in the accessories collection. Many of the bags were made of multicolored lattice leather, sometimes in what looked to be several different textures – I definitely spy some python, at the very least. There was also Jacobs’ signature quilting, with many of the quilts bearing forth rivets and tassels. I liked the addition of texture, but these were not my favorite bags of the show – the tassels and their cords looked like tentacles to me. Not a good look. And last put not least, apparently fringe is not over yet, at least not in Marc’s mind. Many of the latticed bags had nearly a foot of fringe swinging from them in the same colors that made up the bag’s body. I have a feeling that this will be shortened somewhat before the products are shipped to stores, but I didn’t hate it. In fact, quite the opposite – I thought that it was quite appropriate, considering the construction of many of the pieces Leave it to someone like him to make us all take a second look at fringe.
